Tidying up new back yard

This property is part way through a subdivision. We have just had the fence and clothesline put in. We now require someone to tidy up the backyard strip and to make it more functional. It is currently mud so is messy and needs work. I think some combination of weedmat/stones/pavers would be suitable, but I am open to suggestions. I am looking for something affordable and low maintenance, as this is a rental. Some photos are from before the fence was put in. The area needing doing is on the inside of the fence (but I can't get photos yet because tenants are there). The strip will go from the foundation of the house to the fence which is 1m at its narrowest, and maybe 2m at its widest. Happy to answer any questions
