Job description

Landscape Retaining Walls (Below 1.5m)
North Shore

Our home is about 40 years old. It has a parking space below the house with a 600 mm to 900 mm high brick wall on the right and back sides of the parking space. The back and side walls are each about 5 m long. It looks like there used to be a space of about 30 cm wide between the back of the brick wall and the unsupported excavated clay soil under the house. Over the years, the excavation face has crumbled in places and filled up the parts of the gap. The height of the excavation face relative to the parking space floor varies from about 600 mm/ 1.1 m at the edges to 2 m in the corner. Across the corner, a concrete block wall can be seen (in one of the pictures) that acts as a retaining wall for an outside concreted patio. The crumbling of the excavation face has happened over 40 years and there isn't any reason to believe that it is in danger of collapsing. The house was purchased in November 2019 and a building inspection did not raise this as an issue. However, we would like to have a timber retaining wall installed to prevent further crumbling of the excavation face. The approach to the parking space is very steep and there is a height limit for equipment since it is under the house.
