Garden in St Leonards

Small flat area currently covered in weedmat and seperate areas of bark and stones with small amount of planting. Want to add plants and groundcover (even consider grass) to make totally weed free. Weeds and grass currently set between the matting and the surface. I want no maintenance because of my age and limited back mobility
