Our project is a major redesign of our outdoor spaces. The first thing to understand is that we are on a small rear cross lease site with limited access. The second thing is that the project involves hand digging a couple of cubic metres of clay and removing from site. Still reading? Here is a synopsis of the rest of the project: • Renovate upstairs deck including covered pergola • Redesign outdoor living area including new decking and other ground coverings, changes in level, partial covering, new pergola covered in bird netting (to protect our chickens), thin tank, lighting • Remove front gardens to make space for an additional covered parking area and improve lighting • Improve access at side of house While the overall plan is quite clear, there are a lot of decisions to be made around details so ideas and guidance will be welcomed.

Contractor has now abandoned the project halfway through. Left us with an unfinished project and a terrible mess everywhere. Paid him a second progress payment just before he left so have paid him 3/4 of the budget for around half the work. They also demoed an area they hadn’t started work on. If they had left this demo until they were ready to do the work I could have just completed the unfinished work without being too far out of pocket but instead I also need to reinstate the entrance way.
