Soundproofing ceiling of apartment

Hi, we own the lower apartment of a duplex and need to soundprood insulate the ceiling. The aim is to minimize, as much as possible, general noises from the apartment above including walking, music/bass, sliding door etc. The building is a 1970s, one up, one down weatherboard duplex/apartment, approx. 65 square metres for the entire apartment, with limited space, potentially the depth of a joist, between our ceiling and the floor of the apartment above. We own the lower apartment and have a good relationship with the landlord of the apartment above. We would like to investigate our options, of rockwool, sound proof gib and any other potential solutions to reduce the noise from above. Many thanks, Adam and Ashlee
