Full insulation with repaint

We have a 4 bedroom 160ish sqm brick and weatherboard house that we are keen to look into wall insulating in addition to replacing the ceiling and adding underfloor insulation. The house was built in early 1970's with a second storey extension. I have noted that there are different wall insulation types and that an economical way might be layered the additional wall and losing a few mm.
