air conditioning / cooling install

I currently have a ducted gas heating system and I'd like to have cooling in the house as well. I've been told that going with a ducted heat pump is the way to go, and it sounds good, but expensive. I'm interested in hearing creative solutions but mostly want to have a good solid cooling solution for the whole house that works very well, even if it is expensive.
