Electronics repair

My heat pump is not responding to my remote controller. 1. Heat pump is turned on externally and works if I push the manual button but then I have no control of any of the settings that are controlled by the remote eg temp/timing. 2. The remote is working, can be turned on, buttons working, batteries all good & infra-red test done and fine. 3. Assumption: internal unit reception failure due to small connection problem with electronics plate in unit eg wire needs soldering in place?
