Installing a wall shelf & a doorbell

I need to install a wall shelf in my study along with some instrument hangers but I suspect that there is brick / masonry or concrete on the wall. The wall that I want to install on is the end unit and no other townhouses next to me. I also want to install a doorbell on my front porch / step. Photo is of the wall shelf.
