Alarm Install + Power Socket

Job description

General Handyman Tasks
Waitakere

Published: 15 January 2010

I need an alarm install plus a power socket installed (so the internal alarm box can be housed out of the way). Alarm is a Bosch Solution 844, Brand new. House is small, single storey with large roof cavity. **This job is half complete, the original install wasn't done very professionally, all the cable is run, and half of the alarm is hooked up to the alarm panel, all that needs to be completed is the wiring of the Outdoor and Indoor siren to the alarm panel and program the alarm to operate.**

Firstly, the alarm keypad got broken by the installer, who tried fixing it up using a sticker (the whole keypad came off the wall when you hit the buttons!), he obviously thought he could get away with it. Secondly, the standard of cabling and the way in which the cables were presented was atrocious, it's basic electrician stuff, like making sure if a cable is exposed it's pinned to the wall properly with no slack (the cabling he had done was half hanging off the wall, and had been crimped and taped in the most half-ass manner). I checked up in the attic where all the internal cabling had been run to various sensors etc.. Basically the alarm panel box where all the cables terminate too was left lying on the pink bats in the attic, it took me 15 minutes to mount it on a stud and tidy it to a degree where it looked presentable. Same with the cables he had run, it's best practice to bundle them up and make them look tidy and presentable so it's easy to trace where they all go. I ended up getting in the attic and doing it myself, to the point where I actually considered doing my electricians ticket :-) It was all compounded by the fact that the alarm didn't even work, as the electrician didn't have the knowledge on how to program it, the job should not have even been started. This is where it gets a bit hazy as my in law told them not to worry, but I feel it is the electricians duty to advise people that it would be a better idea to get one person to do the whole job. The electrician (whose name was Ryan) was a total flake, I negotiated with EFX coatings owners (Mike and Linda) for Ryan to atleast replace the keypad and come and tidy things up, but he had every excuse under the sun as to why he couldn't come out and complete the job, so I told him to drop the new keypad off and I would sort it out.
