Electrical connection of lightbulb is stuck in socket

I went to change a light bulb and whilst unscrewing it, the main lightbulb came out but the base/connection of the lightbulb remained in the socket. Ladder is required to get remainder of lighbulb out of the socket so the bulb can be changed
