Replace window latch - the screws are stuck!

A window latch in my kitchen snapped off! It's an old one and the screws obviously haven't been touched for decades - and I just can't get any movement and it's at an awkward angle. I have a replacement latch. Photos attached of broken latch and another of how it should be! I have the window wired closed at the moment but it's not secure and it would be great to get this repaired as soon as possible.
