Replacing old windows with Double glazing

We want to replace our current windows, doors and framing (timber) and double glaze. We are unsure if timber or aluminium would be our choice. This would come down to price. We haven’t organised the windows yet as we haven’t heard back from companies. This is a single story 1960’s house with original windows.
