Job description

General Glazing
Hamilton

Location Hamilton. Three year old two storey town house with upper level balcony that extends over downstairs lounge (i.e. is not free-standing). The balcony needs to have a privacy screen fitted to one end, approximately 1200 wide and 800 high (It must reach to a height of 1.7 metres from the ground, and there is an existing solid one metre railing-wall. The screen needs to be impervious to views downwards but could be constructed of trellis with a rear facing slant which would allow some wind to move through. The idea is to allow the neighbours to have privacy from anyone on the balcony looking over, not the other way around. The cladding is brick on the main house wall, and on the outside of the solid railing/wall. So an alternative might be to extend the brick cladding up but there would have to be some kind of integration with the flashing (See below and drawings attached) Inside of the solid railing-wall is fibre cement. The top of the solid railing-wall is a wide metal flashing that extends all the way around the top. The tricky part will be identifying a solution that will be able to handle wind shear with only two edges secured. whilst at the same time preserving the weather integrity of the house, bearing in mind that the balcony is above the lounge, and any leak introduced into the balcony would go through to the house interior.
