Install cat door in glass panel at front door

I have purchased a cat door and glass installation kit, so now just need a hole cut so the cat door can be mounted. The glass in the door is quite old and is textured, I would ideally like to keep the current pane that is in there rather than replacing it, but if it's not possible to keep the existing one or if there's some other reason it should be replaced, then I'll take the advice of a professional on that. Picture attached of the current glass pane.
