We recently shifted into an apartment, on the 2nd floor, above Quay Street. A lot of noise comes through from the street – traffic, people, etc. The aluminium joinery is pretty old (and it needs repair). But the main thing is that we are after a solution that cuts out the noise. Note the apartment building has strict requirements that the external look of the windows/joinery must remain the same as currently. I think the solution is to create a new window set, which sits inside the existing windows, with the frames in the same place as the existing windows, etc. Really just a variation on a double glazing arrangement. I have attached a photo. Dimensions are as follows: • Overall width 2840 mm • 3 equal sized windows each 800mm wide • The far right window is 440mm wide • Overall height 2100mm • 3 equal sized windows each 1520mm high (bottom row) • 3 equal sized windows each 580mm high (top row) • The far right window is the full 2100mm high The second window from the left opens. It appears that all the top windows open, but we have not used as such.
