Check for leaks and bottle "fullness-detector"

Our house uses two large gas bottles for cooking and hot water heating. We have noticed lately that, when switching from one bottle to the other, the "fullness-detector" doesn't give a very reliable reading. We have run out of gas a couple of times as a result. We're not sure whether this is a detector issue, or possibly the back-up tank is slowly leaking.
