Front gate

I have a walking path between my garage and afence and would like a lockable gate put across it. The path is just over a 1.2 metres wide. I'm guessing I would need a metal post put into the ground to hang the fence off. I will probably buy a metal based gate to swing across the path locking against the fence. So the job is to just embed a metal post in the ground
