Fence & Manual opening gate

I am wanting a fence & access gate built beside a (rose) garden bed alongside our driveway. This is not a boundary fence but to secure our garden space for my mini schnauzer dog. I have considered metal fencing (coloursteel? / similar to a pool fence) but this fence is to be built on a slight slope & I dont know if this is possible on a slope - if so does it need to be "stepped" down. There is a metal gate at the access to our property at the end of the lawn. Wooden fences such as a picket fence are a possible option but I'm open to suggestions - earlier this year Mitre 10 advised me that timber for railings was in very short supply & expensive. If I am advised on what to purchase the materials can be purchased in advance Also there are several trees nearby also on the lawn, so tree roots may be an issue. Timeframe - in the New Year/February is fine, I am looking for a quote & ideas for the fence at this time.
