Active job

minor switchboard rewire

Job description

General Electrical
Hutt Valley

Setting the scene: - We have recently installed a brand new, well insulated hot water cylinder - There are only two of us living at the residence, and we both work full time so use little hot water during the day - We have a night store heater which we never use which is hooked up to a cut-rate night electricity meter I have been toying with the idea of hooking up the hot water cylinder to the night meter. This would save us money by paying a lower rate to heat the water at night. It seems the only down side would be that if we ever had all the relatives over to stay and ran the cylinder dry, we would need to wait until evening for hot water. I think I can live with this risk. The job: Swap the hot water meter and night store heater over on the switchboard so the hot water cylinder is hooked up to the night meter and the night store is hooked up to the ripple control device. We will probably eventually replace the night store with a more modern hard-wired heater. We need to have something hooked up to ripple to keep our lower rate on electricity. Other thoughts: I t would seem this is a very small, straight-forward job. It might be able to be done by someone on their way home or travelling between larger jobs. I would need a pretty good idea, if not a firm agreement, of the cost before going ahead. As we will be doing this to save money, we will only go ahead if the cost seems reasonable in the context of our circa $100/month power bill that we may be able to cut down by $10 a month. I know this is a small job, but one upside for you the tradesperson is that we are renovating our house and this contact could lead to other work down the track.
