Our house was built in 1960 and some lighting circuits contain wiring with rubberised insulation that can become brittle with heat and age. The wiring is in the roof space and there is now a layer of thermal insulation over it. I would like to explore options for either (a) replacing all of the old wiring or (b) replacing the more vulnerable parts of it (ie the sections near lights). The existing wiring has not caused any electrical problems but is an issue that needs addressing. There are 18 section lengths of cable (approximately 72 metres) required for a full replacement. There would be 8 light fittings involved if removing just the vulnerable heat affected sections of cable is acceptable. Plans and sketches of the work required are available.
