Job description

Switchboards
Auckland

I need my old switchboard swapped out to get things up to code, have a few powerpoints changed from singles to doubles, or doubles to quads, run a powerpoint up to the attic through the waste-pipe cupboard, and get some light fittings replaced, fixed or altered. I have had three electricians come and check things out to talk about what needs doing. None of them have ended up quoting in the end due to being too busy with bigger jobs, but this means I have a good idea of the work and the main costs. Just need someone to actually come and do it! The switchboard needs replacing: I’m aware the size won’t perfectly cover the hole of what’s there, but I’ll be okay to just fill and paint that. We are in a flat in an apartment block - the meters are outside in the laundry yard and easily accessible. Powerpoints need changing from doubles-to-quads (see photos) in: 1x laundry room 1x kitchen I was told the easiest option would be the vertical strip of four plugs, for convenience of installation and cost. Powerpoints to be changed from singles to doubles (see example photo): 2x living room 1x master bedroom 1x child bedroom 1x kitchen (for the attic powerpoint line, see photo) I need some powerpoints (or a powerpoint) installed in the attic. We have lights up there, but would prefer a proper plug point rather than running one off the light switch, as we might be using e.g. a heater or a record player up there from time to time. An electrician who came to quote (but then didn't end up sending the quote) thought a very good option was to run a cord from the kitchen (off the back of an existing power-point), up through the internal waste-pipe cupboard, into the attic. See pics of the kitchen powerpoint behind the fridge, which we could run a line off into the coat closet directly behind it (or just along the wall next the the fridge), then through the wall into the waste pipe closet directly adjacent (see pic in kitchen), which runs up to the next floor (see pic of first-floor waste pipe closet) and then goes straight up into the attic, nice and easy (see attic pic). The current attic lights' position needs adjusting so they aren't so glare-y, e.g flip them behind the beam rather than in front of them, and if possible, add another one down the other end of the attic. We also need some light fittings seen to/replaced in the kitchen and hallways. - Kitchen fittings have always been faulty. Possibly the person who originally installed them before we moved in got something wrong - they are double lights, but one bulb always blows out immediately when replaced. I would like you to figure out what’s wrong and either fix it, or replace with a better option. - One of these ceiling light-fittings just seems impossible to replace properly after changing bulbs - if you can figure out why then great, otherwise, needs to be replaced with with a standard batten fitting for easier replacement of bulbs, and also replace the other matching one as well so I can get new matching batten-fix lightshades later myself.

Braedan was really great to deal with - super quick and conscientious with communication about all the details and scheduling, and did a great job. We had been let down in the past by other electricians, and he was really upfront and responsive by comparison, and didn't shy away from going the extra mile for getting things done right. Thanks!
