Reinstall plug socket

Somebody incorrectly installed a plug socket, probably because they were lazy, the obstruction caused our old range hood duct to crimp which made the whole thing overheat and need to be replaced. Now, the socket, is jutting out and prevention me from installing a new range hood. There is excess cable which is difficult to slip back into the wall. Also there is not much to screw into to secure. Please help.
