Replacement of handle and lock on sliding door

We have a sliding door with an old wooden handle attached to metal. The metal is old and has broken. I have tried to fix it with Knead but was unsuccessful. I rang Rylock, they say that the wooden handle is so old, they don't make it any more so the whole thing would need to be replaced, which is what we thought. It has a lock on the outside. This is a rental and so access would have to be arranged with the tenant.
