Vespa Apartments is a 5-storey building located at 20 Hanson St, Mt Cook, Wellington. The building was originally a 4 level factory building that was converted to apartments in 2003. The building now has a range of weathertightness issues arising from the 2003 conversion. Rendercon has been engaged to resurface the entire building exterior – including putting a Sika MTC trafficable membrane over the existing butanol surface (shown in purple on the elevation below). They are currently scheduled to start their work mid-May 2024. There are five wooden decks on the butanol surface. These need to be demolished and removed before Rendercon starts work. All care will need to be taken to not puncture the existing butanol membrane and to leave the walls of apartments in sound condition ready for Rendercon to finish surfaces. Rendercon will start by scaffolding the building and this is expected to take around three weeks. This work can be done before or during scaffolding, but must be done before the end of May. There is room for a rubbish chute and bin at street level. There will be a separate contract for installing new decks, balustrade, and privacy screens once Rendercon has completed their works. We are about two weeks from having construction drawings for this.
