Chimney removal

Job description

General Demolition
Wellington

My house was built in --- (I've lived here about four years) and the chimney would date from that time, I imagine. In fact I have the original plans if they are any help. This is not an urgent job and I have no idea how much it would cost, which is why I'm keen to have more than one person look at it. But I'm thinking of replacing the sitting room wallpaper so if I'm going to have the chimney removed it makes sense to do that first. I also imagine that the job would involve some reconstruction work of the wall. I've never seen a chimney removed before and don't know how it works. I'm not seriously worried about an earthquake but I haven't used the fireplace since I discovered that even after it was cleaned, smoke would periodically waft out into the room. In any case, I have no source of cheap firewood. A pity as I do like open fires but it never gave out much warmth in any case. The chimney extends down into the basement washhouse, so that the soot is removed from down there. There would be no need to remove this part of the chimney, I would think - just upward from the sitting room. However, I'd be interested in hearing what people have to say.

I've been very pleased with Gordon and his son Sean. They did a very good job and are friendly and pleasant people. I wouldn't hesitate to employ them again.
