Water coming up through concrete floor

In the major storm three weeks ago with torrential rain, water appeared through the carpet in our bedroom. The house is single level on a concrete floor/foundation. The water patch was about 23cm in diameter. The carpet dried out after about a week but clearly something is amiss with the foundation. Possibly a crack? We are unable to investigate the concrete because of the awkwardness of pulling up the carpet. We would like someone to investigate the problem and fix it so that it doesn't happen again.
