This project is for an Incorporated Society which operates a miniature railway. An existing track and base will be removed by others. The new base is to comprise a 1m wide x 150mm thick concrete slab of approximately oval shape, 185 metres circumference, reinforced by 3 x 12mm bars with R6 ties at 600mm centres. Expansion joints to be saw cut at 3 m intervals. Setting out and provision of levels will be carried out by the Society. Note that accuracy of levels will be of paramount importance in order to provide correct gradients for the railway track. (The base will support a raised concrete plinth approx. 350mm high. This plinth will be slip-form cast by others.) The work to include excavation and consolidation of base trench of 1.2m width generally following existing contours but with up to 10 cu m of spoil removal and relocation on site. Site conditions generally sandy soil. Upon completion of concreting and formwork removal, adjacent ground to be reinstated to top of base level.
