Job description

Home Cleaning
Christchurch

Published: 13 January 2014

I am putting my house up for sale soon and most of it is being repainted, however the garage will not be and the walls are fairly dirty, with scuff marks and a few surface liquid stains. It is a double garage. I would like someone to clean down the walls in the garage, as well as the ceiling. See photos for a general idea of the dirt. There is also a small walk-in-wardrobe that similarly will not be painted but has lots of scuff marks that could be cleaned. I'm realistic about what can and cannot be achieved through cleaning when it comes to scuff marks etc, so I'm not expecting a pristine white result by any means. Finally the aluminium windows have had a small amount of mildew etc grow on rubber linings from condensation, and also the window channels have dirt in them that needs to be cleaned out. There are quite a lot of windows in the house and they all need cleaning, as well as 3 external doors with windows that would also need to be cleaned. I'd guess that the whole job might take 5-6 hours, potentially less depending on how fast you are. I'd like this job done sometime in January. Note that pictures have had contrast / brightness adjusted so that the dirt is visible.

Initially quoted for up to 6 hours work based on information provided, when I offered for them to come and view the work to give an accurate quote they turned it down. After starting the work, have now advised it will take 13 hours and cost twice as much, which I declined to continue with. Some of the work has been done well but other parts not done well. Now I will have to do the rest of the work myself (and re-do some of it) or find someone else to do it.

Tradesperson reply
"The amount of work required for this job is extensive. This property has not been maintained in years. We offered to complete the job but were declined. The owner seemed vacant to the fact that the work required is labour intensive and the neighbours are happy to see the house is for sale. Overall contact with us was good and we would have happily finished the job to our high standards if the owner accepted our proposal."
