Kingsland carpet patch

I am looking for a cost effective way to patch some carpet at the top of a stair case. The carpet is in good (enough) shape elsewhere so I don't want to replace multiple rooms worth. I don't mind if the repair is not beautiful (it's a rental) - but I don't want tenants tripping on it. There will be carpet on the floor of a wardrobe in one of the bedroom that could be used to help create a patch. Photo included. I am work far too many hours a week in a job where I can not always get to the phone, so best to communicate online to start with.
