Cover the deck

We would like to cover part of our deck with a pergola-style roof that will keep rain out but let light in. It is a sheltered area at the back of our house, and the deck is in good condition. The roof would cover a U-shaped area, approximately 3m X 6 m (I think it just snakes in under the size that would need consent). Thanks
