Pergola near the beach

Job image

Job description

Decking & Pergolas
Kapiti Coast

There is an existing deck on which I want to have a free standing pergola. The pergola would be approx 9 metres long and approx 3 metres wide. It would need uprights of dressed timber, put into concrete footings for posts on each of the long sides. The attached drawing shows 3 uprights but 4 may be needed. The tops of the uprights would be joined both along the sides and across the deck to form rectangles with all joints bolted. Approximately 3 metres plus of each post would be above ground. On top this frame would be planks laid on their narrow edge, spaced at approx 500 to 800mm subject to how that looks on site. The deck will need to be cut to enable some of the posts to be erected. As I want to maintain the integrity of appearance of the deck, the deck planks removed would need to be replaced after the posts were installed. The deck has been stained and colour matching would be very difficult as the stain was done some time ago and the colour is uneven. The job does not include any deck staining, only replacement of the existing decking removed to install the upright posts. The site has easy access and is flat.

Material shortages affected timing but the finished job is fine. I certainly learnt from this .
