Widen Fridge Cabinet

The current fridge is wider than the fridge cavity and is lodged between a door and a bench. I would like to establish if the bench can be shortened and a larger cabinet made (with doors) made to house our current fridge. I am very keen to progress this job - but first need to establish if it is possible and how complicated it might be.
