Custom sized desk/hobby table

I would like a desk/hobby table with the dimensions of --- high, sturdy and simple design and built to last, with no drawers and if it needs structural support accross the desk I would still like to be able to have chairs comfortable on each side. The cabinetry in my office is rimu coverered (not solid rimu) so I am unsure which wood or finish would suit the small space (see photo), the desk/table would be in the center on the room with a 700mm side against the wall under the window, creating a very cosy hobby space.
