Floating hardwood shelves in recess

We have a small inbuilt recess we want floating shelves in (see pictures). We have four hardwood shelves we want mounted in the recess but are unsure how this would be best done as am not certain if/where there are studs behind the gib. Would be easy job done in less than half a day I suspect.
