Fix cracked hardie board soffit lining

We have sold our house which is a 90's brick and tile bungalow. At the house entrance, the hardie board soffit lining has a reasonable crack in it which we are required to have fixed as a condition on sale of the house. We imagine that it could be repaired by installing a patch (on the roof side by removing tiles) to reinforce it, gluing it in place then sealing up the crack. However, open to whatever repair method is considered reasonable and necessary. We will repaint it ourselves. We would like to get this completed by Friday 5th April.
