Garage Door Frame

Job description

Garages & Carports
Porirua

My garage has always been subject to some movement in strong wind. In the past this was mainly with strong Southerlies, to which the garage is more exposed, and since internal strengthening work done 20 years ago, it had not prevented me opening and closing the garage door. But 2 years the doorframe upright at the Southern end of the garage rotted at the base. I had not thought the doorframe uprights to be structural, since they simply sat on the concrete floor of the garage. But since then the doorframe has become more subject to movement in strong Northerlies than Southerlies, and I realised that the upright had at least been providing some bracing against the movemennt now occuring, even without being sunk into the concrete floor and the ground below. One Northerly gale caused the wheel of tilting door to be be pulled from its rail, preventing me from opening the door. A garage door specialist fixed that. He told me the door needed replacing, but that that was not worth doing until the garage was structurally stabilised sufficiently to stop this movemennt. Since then I have delayed, thinking I could manage the situation by ensuring the door was always open during a Northerly gale, so the wheel wouldn't be pulled from its rail. But last October a Southerly gale pushed the top left corner of the of the door inward, creating a semi-permanent bend in the metal door. It is still (just) possible to open and close the door, but making it difficult enough to make avoid doing so as much as possible
