Interior set of stairs in newish house (built 2004) has a squeaky stair. We have already had a carpet guy put in about 40 ridged nails from above but squeak remains. He believes problem is with loose nogs underneath. There is a fixed piece of hardboard underneath so you will have to remove that, fix squeak, then replace and refinish hardboard. We would like the replacement to be some sort of hinged piece to allow easy access in the future. Perhaps you can just jigsaw in, then convert the original board into a hinged piece?

Errol was polite and helpful and was willing to offer advice on other jobs around the house. He used a tarpaulin to cover the carpet where he was working. He was willing to arrange to meet when the time suited me. The finished job looks great - the new surround around the outside of the sawn wood fits perfectly together and workmanship is neat and tidy. All in all a nice simple quick job completed within a short time and at a decent price.
