We live in a 4 story A-frame in stokes valley, and the fireplace is on the ground level of the house. The fireplace removal would involve removal of the free standing log burner, potentially remedial work to the floor under the log burner, as well as removal of the chimney and installation of a skylight where the chimney currently exits through the roof. The fireplace works, but due to the chimney and the shape of the house, we can only light it in a northerly wind, so sadly are needing to remove it. We'd like to use the opportunity to create more space in the lounge so need the floor to be suitable for everyday use, and we'd like to utilise the space in the roofing that will be created by removing the chimney to add in skylight. The roofing on the house is in 13 metre sheets of iron except around the chimney, so not sure what might need to be done around this. Ideally we'd like this work done as soon as possible so that we can make use of the space, but can be flexible with timelines.
