Ceiling repair

The ceiling in an upstairs room has cracked. It appears to be slightly water damaged (can't be sure, but it is bulging), so I imagine something in the roof cavity may be leaking. I don't have a ladder so can't get into the roof cavity to check it out. The plaster surrounding the hole is fairly firm to touch, but the bulging has me very worried. See the photos attached (second photo the lighting is terrible but shows a better angle of the issue)
