Hello, I have a need to remove a post outside my garage before I install a new garage door (the old one is damaged and needs to be replaced). It is not a load-bearing post since it is attached under a substantial steel I-beam and doesn't hold up anything ... it was suggested to me that looks to be from a time before the current garage door was installed and the garage was 'split' between a garage door for the car, and a doorway entrace, unsure. In either case, I need to remove it and looking for some help. The post is comprised of three wood beams, covered in a thin metal wrap-around, and bolted to the steel I-beam at the top and into the concrete at the bottom. The objective is to take the beam out and to finish off by grinding any excess metal that may extend from the I-beam and/or concrete flooring (so that it is smooth). The bolts at the top and bottom look in decent shape to use tools to unscrew them, but unsure due to the potential age, so they may need to be cut off ... I leave this to you as to what is easiest. Cost would also include disposing of the post. Thank you.
