Insulating the roof

Job image

Job description

General Building
Auckland

Hi..just so you are aware at this stage I am gathering information... With all the talk by the govt and the scheme they have put in place around insulating homes - this about my roof. I would ideally like my roof insulated. The problem is I don't know what gap I have - between the tiles and the inside of the roof. I don't have a man whole. The inside of my roof is the same slope as the outside...I don't have a low ceiling. My house is brick and tile and built around 1968. I have read recently where you can blow wool or fibre into the ceiling. I'm not interested or don't see the logic in pumping foam into the ceiling (I know its done in the walls) so not sure if this is a solution or not. But I also have heard you need to have a gap between the roof and the insulation is...to trap the air. Is this correct? I have old concrete tiles on my roof so I assume you could remove some of these; but is this worth while? Does anybody have any thoughts? or solutions to this problem. I guess the other big job would be to rejib the roof inside? Note this is work in progress to understand what is required. Thank you to those that take the time to respond.

Thanks Steve; honest and very informative. I'll be in touch once I've decided on the roof.
