Bricking in an open fireplace

I want to have our open fireplace bricked up and closed off and the chimney opening covered. There are tiles around the opening (i can send photos), and we would like to have these eventually removed and the whole wall made new as a plain wall, ie gibbed up and painted. But I understand that part could be for a builder.
