Our 1960's house has a carport at our front door, which is currently enclosed on 3 sides - at the rear by inbuilt cupboards one side by a concrete brick wall on the boundary and the other side by the side of our brick and tile house. We live in a coastal area and wish to utilise the garage for parking our car and more storage of bikes and other rust averse items, including washing machine/dryer and laundry tub which are currently located in our kitchen. Currently the driveway and carport is concreted, although pitted in some places, so we may need to consider re-surfacing this particularly to allow for drainage for laundry. As the carport is enclosed by the house on one side which has the toilet and bathroom windows, I'd like to find a way to retain as much natural light into those areas as possible. Currently roof of carport has long line panels, a couple of which are clear but mostly solid steel. I would ideally also like to have a separate door adjacent in order to allow access into the garage without having to open the whole garage door. I have spoken to the WCC and they advised we wont need resource consent but will require building consent. We will likely require design drawings for the building consent. Measurements and photos to come.
