A project for a self sufficient skilled local builder, this is an interesting small, architecturally designed 70sqm House-Hut on a regen forest block in Kumeroa for a family used to living in small, cosy inner city spaces who want to replicate the experience of being warm and cosy inside while staying connected to the outside and in this case, the rural-becoming-regen native forest above a stream and below the hills. The family have been camping on this 32 hectare block for 30 years - first in a tent next to the stream, a shed up on top, then a wooden hut - the Crate - that literally fell off the back of a truck. And now they want to be able to stay for months at a time through winter as they continue to pull out wildlings releasing the native forest underneath the paddock and pine forest by day and sit cosy round a fire chatting, reading and reflecting at night.
