Wall removal requirements

Job description

Draughting Services
Hutt Valley

Our brick unit is one of a block of 3 conjoined and built in 1973, of approximately 95 sq metres. Between the kitchen and dining room/lounge, we wish to remove a 3.8 metre wall running east-west which at present has a sliding door between the 2 x rooms. The entire unit is comprised of 6.4 metre north-south trusses spaced at approximately 950mm centres. It is difficult to conclude whether the few nails we've found between the internal partition walls and the lower truss bearer are for anything more than east-west stabilising, as the trusses should have been designed and able to carry the entire weight of the roof. As the building plans we have obtained show no calculations of the 8.7 metre trusses, we wish to confirm that the interior wall can be removed without being replaced with a beam above the wall. If this is not the case, then we will need to proceed to calculate any additional work required to be completed in conjunction with the wall removal (e.g. ceiling beam(s) bolted to lower truss joist). Photo shows the wall looking from the Lounge towards the dining room, and beyond that, the kitchen (through the sliding door)
