Job description

House Design
Coromandel

Design a outdoor portico to add on to a existing 3 year old house: As shown in the attached images the house is in a 'U' shape which we want to get a portico designed to go in between. I have done a 'Sketchup' of this to illustrate what we're trying to achieve. The dimensions of covered-in floor is 8.2m wide between the posts drawn in (allowing for a 800mm eve) x 7.5m. Where it meets the house it is 2.7m stud. The post we will get bricked to match the house. Please ignore the fireplace at this stage (i.e. we don't require that to be designed) It would be great to have the open gable to let in natural light, however we would like some protection when it's raining - one idea we had was to insert glass down to the same stud height as the sides of the portico. Where the portico meets the house, a gap would be good as far as light is concerned but it would most likely let too much rain in so the best bet would be to have it meet into the existing house roof and put a vertical end to cover the existing roof at the house end. The roof angle of the house is 25 degrees so the apex of the portico (at 8.2m wide) will fall just short of the main apex of the house where roof meets roof. Hope this is enough information for a start :) Cheers Jacob Cartwright
