We want to convert our 6x9m stand alone garage into a granny flat for my parents. We hope to keep the property under one title and use an extension of the existing plumbing and electricity supply for the new setup. The land area is about 470m2. The main dwelling is about 120m2. The granny flat will have its own bathroom and kitchen. There are at least three separate parking spaces on the property. We will either convert the current garage or demolish the existing garage and build on the same footprint. Need to know what we can build and ideas of how to build it within code. Does this fit the minor residential unit requirements? Please can you advise what consent we need to apply for? Where we can find the application? How much is the cost of this consent? Any other insights for this process like zone limitations etc?
