Remove all the branches down to about 2m from the ground. Mulch all or as much as you are able, but leave the chips on the site. (For our garden). There is a 3 or 4 metre garden between the tree and the drive, which we do not want destroyed. The tree is on a bank and leaning over the top of the neighbour's house, so the branches could not be dropped straight onto the ground. The branches would need to be taken down a small piece at a time, I would imagine.
