Simple hedge trim in townhouse

In front of my townhouse, there is a hedge (Pittosporum) of 2.30 meters high. I would like to trim it down 0.5m, however my trimmer does not cut large branches..needs a more powerful machine for this job. The length of hedge is about 9 meters and depht is 0.7 m.
